Universities
We help departments, faculties, and central offices plan student consultations, improve governance processes, and work with student leaders in a way that is clear, realistic, and credible.
Consulting for students, by students
Kite Strategy works with students' unions, universities, and organizations that need to understand student governance, student politics, and campus decision making.
About Kite Strategy
Kite Strategy is a student-led advisory practice founded by Dominic Shillingford and Amir Moghaddam. We help clients make sense of student governance, campus politics, non-profit rules, and the practical details that often decide whether a plan works.
Our work sits between strategy and operations. A university may need a better way to consult students. A company may want to approach students' unions without wasting their time or misunderstanding their role. A students' union may need cleaner bylaws, a better committee system, or a neutral chair for a difficult meeting.
Who we support
We help departments, faculties, and central offices plan student consultations, improve governance processes, and work with student leaders in a way that is clear, realistic, and credible.
We advise organizations that want to engage students or students' unions. That can include stakeholder mapping, campus norms, risk assessment, and practical advice on how to approach student groups.
We support executives, boards, councils, and committees with strategy, governance reviews, meeting support, policy drafting, and bylaw updates.
Solutions
We can help with a focused memo, a full governance review, a meeting that needs independent support, or a set of documents that needs to be cleaned up and made usable.
We help clients define the decision in front of them, identify the people affected by it, compare options, and turn loose ideas into a workable plan.
We advise on board structure, executive roles, committee mandates, decision rights, accountability, member consultation, and the habits that make governance easier to run.
We work with the Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act, the Ontario Not-for-Profit Corporations Act, and the way those rules interact with students' union bylaws and university practice.
We draft and revise bylaws, policies, terms of reference, standing rules, officer descriptions, election procedures, and other internal governance documents.
We provide independent chairing, agenda planning, procedural advice, and meeting design for boards, councils, committees, and general meetings.
We prepare minutes and decision records that are clear enough to use later. The goal is simple: people should be able to tell what was decided, who is responsible, and what comes next.
How engagements work
We start with the decision, the people involved, the documents already in place, and the constraints that cannot be ignored.
We prepare the material the work needs: recommendations, options, draft language, meeting plans, governance maps, or decision memos.
We help move the work into practice through revisions, meetings, adoption processes, stakeholder communication, and records.
